Poway New Train Depot Construction to Begin Soon

By this time next year visitors will have another chance to experience history with Old Poway Park’s new Train depot park. Patrons can purchase tickets, watch approaching trains, or simply enjoy the view. Based on an 1890-1990’s architectural theme, Poway’s City Council approved the building of a new train depot in July of 2008. The design reflects the rural character of a small town train depot. Final project plans have been approved and construction will begin in late spring or early summer of 2009. Location will be east of Hamburger Factory Midland Road. The 1191 sq. ft. structure will consist of a covered platform, ticket office and public rest rooms. The new Train Depot will add character and an additional historical experience to Old Poway Park. Old Poway Park is considered “Where the past is Present”.

The Park was created by retired Army Colonel John S. Porter when he settled in Poway in 1948. Colonel John S. Porter had a dream to make a place for folks to come and enjoy the old west. He did succeed. Many families and events take place at this park throughout the year. Fourth of July celebrations are enjoyed, with food and music, face painting and much more. Come by and visit the park when you’re in the area.
Poway Lake is offering on Fridays and Saturday’s night fishing until 11:30 p.m. and boy have they been catching some big catfish. Bring the family out visit Poway and you will really leave with a feeling of enjoyment.
